Pet Embroidery Workshop at Sunday Girl, Old City

This pet embroidery workshop at Sunday Girl felt extra special today and a big part of that is the space itself. Sunday Girl is a cozy, intimate café in Old City owned by Becca, who is truly wonderful. The food and drinks are incredible (I got the cherry mocha latte and yes, I’m still thinking about it), and the atmosphere immediately makes people feel comfortable the second they walk in.

That intimacy always sets the tone for these workshops, but this one stood out even more. About half of the attendees signed up on their own, which I honestly loved. From the start, conversation was flowing. People were chatting, laughing, swapping stories, and before long I saw folks exchanging phone numbers while stitching. It was one of those moments where you realize the craft is just the excuse, the real magic is the connection.

For the workshop itself, everyone embroidered a custom, hand-drawn design of their pet. Each participant had sent me photos ahead of time, and I turned those into embroidery patterns by hand. People stitched onto items of their choice, totes, crewnecks, tea towels, using colors they picked themselves. As always, we walked through embroidery setup together and eased into stitching step by step.

What really stuck with me was how grateful people seemed to be for the break. Life feels especially stressful and emotionally exhausting lately, and for a few hours, everyone was off their phones, fully present, creating something with their hands. It felt like a genuine reprieve, quiet, social, creative, and grounding all at once.

Sunday Girl is also pet-friendly, which meant we finally had a dog join us. She came in wearing the cutest little sweater and calmly hung out for the entire workshop like an absolute angel. Honestly, 10/10 attendee.

By the end, no one wanted to leave. People were already talking about making embroidered gifts for friends and family and starting early so they’d be ready in time for the holidays. Hearing that never gets old. It means the workshop didn’t just teach a skill, it sparked something people want to keep doing.

This was truly a wonderful group. Kind, open, creative, and just really nice humans. I love getting to meet people this way, and I can’t wait to see how everyone’s pet designs turn out as they keep stitching at home.
