Pet Embroidery Workshops in Philadelphia & South Jersey | Spring 2026 Highlights
If you've been following along for a while, you know pet embroidery has become one of my most popular workshops. This spring, I had the opportunity to host events throughout Philadelphia and South Jersey, bringing together pet lovers for nights of creativity, community, and of course, lots of conversations about our furry family members. From breweries and cafes to community gathering spaces, attendees created custom embroidered portraits of their pets while learning a new skill and connecting with fellow animal lovers.
Each participant submits a photo of their pet before the event, and I hand drawn it into a custom embroidery pattern that is ready to stitch when they arrive. No prior embroidery experience is required, making these workshops approachable for beginners while still allowing experienced crafters to create something meaningful and personal.
Workshops Across Philadelphia & South Jersey
This spring, pet embroidery workshops were hosted at several local businesses and community spaces, including:
Tapster Philadelphia
Love City Brewing
Tonewood Brewing
Sunday Girl
Magnify Brewing
Each venue brought together a different mix of attendees, but every workshop shared one thing in common: a room full of people excited to celebrate their pets through creativity.
More Than a Craft Class
While participants come to create custom pet portraits, the workshops quickly become about much more than embroidery. Guests spend the evening sharing stories about their dogs, cats, and other beloved pets while learning new skills and meeting people they may not have otherwise crossed paths with.
At our sold-out workshop at Sunday Girl in Old City Philadelphia, we welcomed 14 attendees along with a special four-legged guest. We also had the opportunity to meet an SPCA employee and several volunteers who shared stories about the work they do supporting animals throughout Philadelphia.
Moments like these are what make these workshops special. The craft becomes a way to bring people together around a shared passion.
Every Pet Portrait is Different
One of my favorite parts of each workshop is seeing how participants make each project their own. Before every event, I create a custom embroidery pattern from a photo of each person's pet. While many people choose a portrait of their pet's face, others opt for something different—, an outline of their dog's ears, a full-body pose, or even a special moment shared between two pets.
The real creativity happens once the stitching begins. Some embroiderers keep their designs simple, using a single color throughout the entire piece. Others add small pops of color to details like noses, tongues, collars, or accessories. And some attendees get incredibly creative, turning their pets into colorful works of art with unexpected color palettes. I've seen monochromatic blue pet portraits, rainbow-inspired designs, and multi-pet pieces where each animal is stitched in a completely different color. On the other end of the spectrum, some participants carefully match every thread to their pet's real-life coloring, creating a portrait that looks remarkably true to life.
Even though everyone starts with a custom pattern and the same basic materials, no two finished pieces ever look alike. That's what makes these workshops so much fun. Every project reflects the personality of both the pet and the person creating it.
Looking Ahead
Pet embroidery workshops continue to be offered throughout Philadelphia and South Jersey at breweries, cafes, wineries, restaurants, and community spaces. Whether you're looking for a creative night out, a unique activity with friends, or a way to create a handmade keepsake of your pet, these beginner-friendly workshops are designed to make creativity accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
